Diwan (Aga Khan Museum) – Toronto

March 16, 2016 Diwan (Aga Khan Museum) – Toronto

The Aga Khan Museum located in Toronto highlights the vast architectural, artistic, and intellectual achievements of Muslims throughout the world. Islamic art is renowned for its connection to Allah (God) through depictions of the universe that the creator has produced. Using calligraphy, engravings, paintings, patterns, and geometry to praise the almighty for the gift that has been bestowed upon the faithful, Islamic art seeks balance, understanding of the universe, and perfection. These characteristics of Islamic art are found in Diwan, the Mark McEwan-run restaurant located inside the Aga Khan Museum. The gorgeous restaurant is located next to the museum’s courtyard. Diwan strives to connect the diner with a luxurious 19th century home in Damascus, Syria - the once jewel of the Arab world, famous for trading, culture, and its food.

Francobollo Posto Italiano- Toronto

February 2, 2016 Francobollo Posto Italiano- Toronto

Francobollo Posto Italiano occupies the same family tree as Rusty’s, Terra, and Sarpa. Francobollo is the youngest member of the family, but it does not disappoint when it comes to classic Italian and even more daring contemporary dishes.

A unique design feature of the restaurant is that the front is separated from the outside patio by two doors, keeping the cold out during a classic Canadian winter. Something that I know is greatly appreciated by any diner seated near a door. This concept of putting the comfort and enjoyment of the patron first extends into their food.

We could feel it in the beautiful décor and intimate space, the authentic Italian ambiance, and the warm smiling faces that greeted us. Yes, we quickly learned that everyone who walks through Anna Maria’s doors is family.
